Organic Lion’s Mane Mushroom Extract (Hericium Erinaceus) – also known as Yamabushitake, Bearded Tooth Mushroom, and Hedgehog Mushroom – is an edible, medicinal fungi that belongs to the tooth fungus group. Clinical tests show the mushroom can treat issues such as indigestion, gastric ulcer, antral sinusitis, stomach pain, bloating, and fatigue. Treatments with mushroom can result in a therapeutic effect for mild fatigue.

1. Immune System. A strong immune system protects the body from bacteria, viruses and other disease-causing pathogens. Animal research shows that lion’s mane can boost immunity by through the intestinal immune system, which protects the body from pathogens that enter the gut through the mouth or nose.
2. Recovery. Research has found that the mushroom extract may help speed recovery from injuries by stimulating the growth and repair of nerve cells. It has been shown to reduce recovery time by 23–41% when given to rats with nervous system injuries.
3. Heart. Studies in rats and mice show that lion’s mane mushroom improves fat metabolism and lowers triglyceride levels. One study in rats fed a high-fat diet and given daily doses of it observed 27% lower triglyceride levels and 42% less weight gain after 28 days.
4. Anti-Inflammatory. Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress are believed to be at the root of many modern illnesses, e.g. heart disease, cancer, and autoimmune disorders. One study found that lion’s mane had the fourth highest antioxidant activity over 14 different mushroom species. Several animal studies have found that the extract reduced markers of inflammation and oxidative stress.
5. Neuroprotective. Studies have found that hericium erinaceus mushrooms contain two special compounds that can stimulate the growth of brain cells – hericenones and erinacines. Additionally, animal studies have found the fungus may help protect against neurodegenerative conditions.
6. Mood. Up to one-third of people living in developed countries experience symptoms of anxiety and low moods. While there are many causes for these, chronic inflammation is a contributing factor.
7. Digestion. Lion’s mane may protect against the development of stomach ulcers by inhibiting the growth of H. pylori and protecting the stomach lining from damage.
8. Prediabetic Support. The fungi may be beneficial by improving blood sugar control while reducing some of the side effects. It lowers blood sugars is by blocking the activity of the enzyme alpha-glucosidase, which breaks down carbs. When this enzyme is blocked, the body is unable to digest carbs as effectively, which results in lower blood sugar.
9. Potentially Anti-Tumor. When DNA becomes damaged, it may lead to dysfunctional cells dividing and replicating out of control. This we more commonly call a cancer. However, when lion’s mane is mixed with human tumor cells in a test tube, it is known to cause the tumor cells to die at a faster rate. This has been demonstrated with several types of cells, including liver, colon, stomach, and blood cancer cells.
