Description
Organic Rhodiola Rosea root extract has been used by people in Scandinavia and Russia for centuries as a natural remedy against lack of energy and fatigue. The arctic root contains more than 140 active ingredients, out of which two of the most potent are rosavin and salidroside. Many people find it helps with alertness throughout the day, but other effects are that it supports the immune system and reduce the cell damage caused by oxidants.
Function
People take organic rhodiola rosea root extract for a variety of reasons.
- Antioxidant. The active compounds, rosin and salidroside contain phenolic hydroxyl groups and unsaturated bonds, which have been shown to be effective at scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and helping neutralize free radicals in the body.
- Cognition. Arctic root has been studied for its potential to enhance cognitive function, including improvements in memory, focus, and overall mental performance. It may have a positive impact on mental clarity and alertness by modulating a certain neurotransmitter useful for processing speed.
- Mitochondrial Function. Rhodiola is believed to enhance mitochondrial function by supporting the production of energy within cells. This can result in increased stamina and reduced fatigue.
- Healthspan. An animal study found the arctic root activated sirtuin 2 enzyme, which is known to affect healthspan. Another study showed salidroside inhibited the mTOR pathway by activation of AMPK in malignant bladder cells. The inhibition of the mTOR pathway is believed to affect longevity.
- Exercise. The adaptogenic properties of the root extend to combating physical fatigue. A meta analytic study reported it had a positive effect on overall athletic ability and performance in sports, with few side effects.
- Well-being. The herbal root is believed to have mood-regulating effects, such as helping to alleviate feelings of being anxious and down, which may result in an improved sense of well-being.
- Heart. Rhodiola may enhance blood circulation, oxygen delivery to cells, lower blood pressure, which may play a part in the overall heart health.
- Stress. The root is commonly classified as an adaptogen, meaning it may help the body adapt to and resist the effects of stress. It may help to modulate high levels of cortisol, which is often the result of and cause of our feelings of stress.
