Traditional Minoxidil Powder 99%
Minoxidil is a fine-grade, high-purity compound widely used as an active ingredient in cosmetic and personal care formulations. Known for its role in topical hair care solutions, minoxidil has been incorporated into a variety of products aimed at scalp and hair maintenance.
This raw material is provided in powder form for flexibility in research, formulation, and product development. It dissolves more readily in alcohol and propylene glycol than in water, making it a practical choice for laboratories and experienced formulators creating cosmetic or R&D preparations.
Key Features
-
High Purity (99%) – fine crystalline powder
-
Hair Care – commonly used in topical formulations
-
Suitable for Research – laboratory and cosmetic product development
-
Compatible with Ethanol – and propylene glycol-based solutions
Suggested application
For use by professionals and experienced in cosmetic formulations or R&D settings. Not intended for direct consumption. Ensure all handling follows appropriate safety and regulatory guidelines.
Use topically on the hair or skin. Traditional minoxidil does not mix in water, but mixes well in both alcohol and propylene glycol (PG). We recommend mixing the minoxidil sulfate to make a 2% – 10% (minoxidil to alcohol / PG) solution. The solution is only useful for a few days, so avoid making a lot of solution in advance.
We recommend applying just a few centiliter of the 2-10% solution to the dry scalp and massaging it evenly over the affected areas (for men twice a day, for women once a day).
In case you notice any side effects, such as a rash or itching, please make a solution that is less concentrated by mixing in more solvent. If it rash still continues, discontinue using the product.
Preparation
Minoxidil has some solubility in ethanol and can form a uniform solution. However, when the solubility limit of ethanol for minoxidil is reached and the solution reaches saturation, no more minoxidil can be dissolved. In pure ethanol, minoxidil can dissolve at a concentration of 3-5%. It approaches saturation at room temperature and requires slight heating or the addition of propylene glycol for complete dissolution.
Here is how to create a solution:
Minoxidil: 5 g
Anhydrous ethanol: 50 mL
Propylene glycol: 30 mL
Distilled water: Add to 100 mL
Heating to 40 ℃, stirring and dissolving, filtering after cooling
