Description
Vitamin K2 Menaquinone-7 (MK7) 0.2% is a fat-soluble vitamin that is essential for the carboxylation of glutamate residues in certain proteins. This allows the protein to bind calcium, which is crucial in the blood clotting process. The carboxylation activates osteocalcin, which promotes the deposition of calcium ions in the blood into the bone that increase bone density and prevent fractures.
Vitamin K2 may also reduce the risk liver disease from progressing into more serious conditions. The vitamin is typically found in fermented foods, such as natto kinase.
Function
- Bones
a) Calcium Regulation. Vitamin K2 helps in the regulation of calcium in the body. It activates proteins that help deposit calcium in the bones and teeth, contributing to bone mineralization.
b) Osteoporosis Prevention. Adequate vitamin K2 levels may help prevent osteoporosis by ensuring proper calcium utilization in bone tissue. - Heart
a) Arterial Health. Vitamin K2 is thought to help prevent calcium deposits in the arteries, which can contribute to atherosclerosis. By regulating calcium, K2 may contribute to maintaining healthy blood vessels.
b) Heart Health. Some studies suggest that sufficient vitamin K2 intake may be associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular diseases. - Reduce Calcification
Vitamin K2 may help prevent abnormal soft tissue calcification, such as arteries and joints, by directing calcium to the bones and teeth. - Brain Function
While research is still in the early stages, there is some evidence suggesting that vitamin K2 may play a role in supporting cognitive function. - Anti-Inflammatory
Vitamin K2 has been associated with anti-inflammatory effects, which can be beneficial for overall health. - Dental Health
Vitamin K2 is believed to contribute to dental health by aiding in the proper mineralization of teeth. - Cancer Prevention
Some studies suggest a potential role of vitamin K2 in reducing the risk of certain cancers, although more research is needed to establish a definitive link.
